Meet the Leadership team at Crossway. Our pastors and directors love the Lord Jesus Christ and have a passion to lead others to know Him in a greater way.

Buffy Cook
Buffy Cook, Senior Pastor

BACKGROUND:  Buffy believes wholeheartedly that if you wanna make God laugh, tell him your plans!  In 2000, he would have laughed you outta town had you told him over the next 15 years he would go from Emergency Room to Pulpit, from Southern Boy Agnostic sold out to self to Southern Baptist Pastor sold out to Christ!  Yet, that’s exactly what happened beginning in the Summer of 2001 when Buffy came to know Jesus Christ as Lord & Savior and to experience the amazing, radical, life-transforming grace of Jesus Christ.  Learning very early in his Christian life that “you are not your own, for you were bought with a price” (1 Cor. 6:19-20) and that “the only lasting efforts are those designed to accomplish God’s purposes for eternity” (Eccl. 1:3) Buffy has made it his life goal that the love of Christ would control him & all he does (2 Cor. 5:14).  As such God has used him in many capacities over the past 15 years: Sunday School teacher, Youth Pastor & Children’s Director, international missionary (Guatemala, Ecuador, Uganda & Kenya), and now as a bivocational pastor – serving the physical needs of his community as a Family Physician at Brighton Family Medicine & serving the spiritual needs of his community as the Senior Pastor at Crossway Baptist Church.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Buffy is responsible through his preaching, teaching & visionary leadership to help the congregation Love God with all their heart, soul & mind, Love People with the same radical, amazing grace, mercy & forgiveness God has extended to them in His Son Jesus Christ, and Build God’s Kingdom by making world visionary, world impacting disciples who can & do multiply themselves!

FAMILY:  Buffy has been happily married to his wonderful, amazing, God-fearing & loving wife, Vicky, since September 2000.  He has 4 kids (Kayla, Miranda, Will & Matthew).  Vicky has 5 kids (the same AND BUFFY!).

HOBBIES:  Any time spent with his family (from Family Movie Nights on the couch to vacays spent camping in the Great Outdoors); Any (and he means ANY) opportunity to be in the deer woods!!!

EDUCATION:  B.S., MTSU (1994); M.D., Univ. of TN-Memphis (1998); Master of Christian Studies, Union University (2013-present)

Jimmy Hicks
Jimmy Hicks, Associate Pastor

Jimmy was born and raised in Tipton County. He graduated from Covington High School in 2000 and went on to attend Tennessee Technology Center in Covington. He started his career with the local radio station, U.S. 51 Country 93.5, in 2001 where he is still currently employed.

Jimmy and his wife Melissa met while in high school and they were married in 2003. They now have three handsome young sons, Tanner, Braden and Nolan.

On August 27, 2013 God impressed upon Jimmy that he was in great need of a Savior and from that day on his life has been completely and forever transformed. As a result of this change he had the desire to incorporate his position at the radio station with furthering the Kingdom of God by sharing the Gospel through his program “Lifesong”.

On March 1, 2015 he surrendered to God calling him into ministry and in January 2016 he accepted the position of Associate Pastor for Crossway Baptist Church.

Jimmy’s life verse is Galatians 2:20 which says,

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
